Skate for Life, Style

Live to Skate, Skate to Live! Yea, that's right man. Came upon that saying at the website of a new skater Magazine looks like they might find a larger market of us fun fitness skaters instead of just the elite spandex crowd as other publications have attempted and died. I wish them well. Wow and another Skate Magazine was handed to me yesterday by friends back from the St Paul Marathon. With the demise of the A2A and the NYC 100K I thought inline speed skating in the USA was put a fork in it DONE. Hah guess not with 2 publications promoting this fun downright hard sport.

Speed Skating Bloggers
Two speed skater Olympic hopefuls training at the Utah Olympic Oval are devout bloggers. Eva Rodansky scientist and Speed skater says it like it is and doesn't hold back. I respect her absolute will to win and to be right. Her story is an amazing saga worth the read from the beginning might as well read it now before she finishes the book next year. Look for her to compete in Turin in January where she will give everything she has. Clearly after reading her story that is all she has done for years and years. I wish her a golden future.

Andrew Love a talented photographer writer and philosopher provides us an insight into the independent High 5 Speed skating team training at the Oval. Reading both of these blogs will give you a personal understanding of the daily thoughts of people who will themselves a lifestyle that delays simple pleasure or gratification for a single moment of triumph. Their hard work and self denial is a lesson I sure need on a daily basis and I thank them for that.

Imagine That!
Wake up in your new studio apartment after an 8 hour flight from New York. You now live in a new country, a government you have signed a work contract with to give them your services for 24 months in return for a good salary package. You are excited about the possibilities and looking forward to giving your best. You start counting your blessings nice clean place to live seems like a safe place you met some very interesting expatriates they called themselves during the orientation with the company. Looking forward to SCUBA diving lessons in the Red Sea and the chance to travel to biblical sites and see sights that no tourist will ever get to see. Because this is a closed country NOT open to tourists. You pickup a copy of the International Edition of Newsweek Magazine on a trip to the old port city a few miles to the North. As you flip through the magazine on the company bus back to the industrial city that is your home for the next two years you notice some odd things.

Pages torn out, black magic marker strokes across parts of stories. What is this censorship! That is against the constitution! It is just wrong why I'll call my congressman NO Senator! HOLLY SHIT that means nothing here, I'm on my own.

A senario and shock that thousands of Americans discovered in Saudi Arabia during the boom days of the late 70's and early 80's I know because I was one of them.

She Knew What I Do!
This poet after several attempts sadly killed herself in 1963. I found her work blurfing and am blown away how accurate her imagery matches what I do every day. I pride myself that news photographers NEVER rubberneck because we already know how bad it isn't or we stop to shoot. But we are professional rubberneckers just collecting the check. TV with its constant car wreck images can have a positive effect I am sure it does sometimes? Are you wearing your seatbelt?

Aftermath by Sylvia Plath

Compelled by calamity's magnet
They loiter and stare as if the house
Burnt-out were theirs, or as if they thought
Some scandal might any minute ooze
From a smoke-choked closet into light;
No deaths, no prodigious injuries
Glut these hunters after an old meat,
Blood-spoor of the austere tragedies.

Mother Medea in a green smock
Moves humbly as any housewife through
Her ruined apartments, taking stock
Of charred shoes, the sodden upholstery:
Cheated of the pyre and the rack,
The crowd sucks her last tear and turns away.

One Doctors Opinion
The answer from my doctor is that my fitness level saved me from a heart attack. Other arteries took up the slack from the cloged one. Ok, I could have never have achived this fitness lever without the Usana nutritional products. They have energized me in so many ways without them I am sure I would not have survived the clogged "widowmaker" left anterior descending artery.

I will get an answer from Usana soon.
